Welcome to Hopton cum Knettishall

The Parish Council of Hopton cum Knettishall welcomes you to our website. We hope you will find it useful and of interest.

Hopton and Knettishall are situated in Suffolk, the northern boundary is the border with Norfolk. Hopton village is built on either side of the B1111, Knettishall is about 1 mile south of the A1066. Thetford is the nearest large town, with Bury St Edmunds, Diss and Stowmarket all under 17 miles away. The combined population of both villages is about 640

Considering our rural location, the villages have a good range of amenities and services including:

A large village shop with Post Office, a health centre (general practice and dentistry), a great primary school (www.hopton.suffolk.sch.uk), a village hall and playing field (with a fenced off play area for young children), three churches, a mother & toddler group at the High Street Chapel (Early Birds), a pre-school at the village hall (Little Tots), a bowling green, “The Vine” pub, a fish and chip shop, hairdressers, a large DIY / garden centre, a surprisingly good bus service and a mobile library service run by Suffolk County Council.

Other businesses in the area include solicitors, builders, plumbers and electricians. The Parish Magazine (available from Hopton shop or by subscription) has a very comprehensive advertising section.

Walkers, horse riders, cyclists and nature lovers will find many public footpaths and the superb Knettishall Heath Country Park.

Facilities for older children and teenagers are unfortunately limited, however nearby villages host meetings for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Scouts, the Woodcraft Folk, and the Army Cadet Force.
If you are a parent with older children, be prepared to be a regular taxi driver to the nearby towns and villages.

The local BT phone exchange is broadband enabled. The exchange building is in Garboldisham. Mobile phone reception on all networks is patchy and unlikely to be high speed 3G.Mains gas is not available in the villages. The nearest petrol stations are in Stanton and Honington.
